Fibrous Plaster Cornice

Fibrous plastering is the installation and plastering of solid plaster of paris sheets re-enforced with fibres.

Fibrous plaster is common in New Zealand buildings dating back as far as 1906. Fibrous plaster does not have a paper face like GIB® plasterboard and so it has exactly the same material on the face of the sheet as on the plastered join. The uniform texture works well on large surfaces as it conceals its joins very well which is why it remained the preferred material for ceilings up until the 60’s and 70’s.

A lot of people still feel that fibrous plaster is a better material for stability and finish quality. Its stability is owed to the fact that the sheets are attached to ceiling battens with fibres and plaster looped around the battens.

Fibrous later became more of a premium choice used in high end homes. Fibrous plastering also includes a decorative component with simple or ornate cornices, corbels or ceiling roses.

Our Auckland fibrous specialist is James Brougham who has well in excess of forty years of fibrous experience and loves to work on beautiful fibrous cornices. There are very few things Jimmy hasn’t seen or done when it comes to fibrous plastering.

Our fibrous services include;
